HESPERIA LAKE: The weekly 1,000-pound catfish plants continue with a plant last Thursday and another slated for Thursday this week. The fish average 1-8 to two pounds, but there are some bigger fish in each plant. The best action has been on the M&M (marshmallow-meal worm) combo, shrimp, or cut mackerel, and adding a scent helps. Top spots this week have been The Finger and Sandy Point. Top stringer of the week went to
Kevin Salgado, Hesperia, with five fish that totaled 36 pounds, and his best fish was a 9-8, all on the M&M Combo at The Finger. Isidaro Salgado, also Hesperia, had three cats totaling 18 pounds. The biggest cat this past week was a 10-pounder landed by Jason Henry, San Bernardino, on shrimp and marshmallow off the north shore. Mauricio Caldera, Apple Valley, landed a 7-4 cat, while Mylz Collier, Hesperia, had a four-pounder. Information: 800-521-6332 or 760-244-5951.

JESS RANCH LAKES: Trout bite has been slow on both lakes, but a few fish have been reported before 9 a.m. on PowerBait (especially hatchery pellet, garlic and salmon peach), nightcrawlers, or small trout jigs and lures. In contract, there is pretty good bass action on the northern and southern shores of lake 2 near the inlets and on lake 3 near pump house. The best bite has been on Senko-type baits, spinnerbait, or and drop-shotted nightcrawlers with some bass to four pounds. Bluegill action is fair on nightcrawlers and meal worms. Some to a pound. Hot spots for bluegill are the western shore of lake 3 near the pump house and the western shore of lake 2 near the drain. A few catfish are being caught on shrimp and garlic-marshmallow/nightcrawler combos. Best area to catch them is northern and western shore of lake 2. MOJAVE NARROWS: Good catfish action with catfish to five pounds reported in the past week. The best action has been on shrimp with scent added and stink baits, but some also on regular nightcrawlers and other cut baits. Horseshoe Lake at the outlet or along the backside of the lake has been the best spot. County catfish plants are weekly, but there is no fishing the day of the plant (Thursdays).
