SILVERWOOD: The trout bite has been excellent. The DFW had three bonus plants of brown trout go into Cleghorn Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday last week. The fish have been up to 1 1/2-pounds, and most are showing on spinners, small spoons, or trout jigs. Joshua Schwind, Upland, had three trout to 1-8 on spinners in Cleghorn. Catfish are being caught in Cleghorn mostly on cut baits. Stephanie and Cory Hendricks, Victorville, had two catfish that went 8-6 and 5-3, both on sardines in Cleghorn. Stripers are showing at the dam, adjacent coves, quarry, and off the dock, mostly on lug worms, cut baits, and nightcrawlers. Most are in 30 feet of water. Alexandra Buinett, Riverside, had a four-pound striper off the dock on a nightcrawler. Still pretty decent bluegill action off the dock on small baits. A reminder: the dam is closed to angler access. Anglers should be aware of health advisories for the consumption of fish from this lake because of high PCB and mercury levels in the fish flesh and skin. Here’s the direct link to a PDF brochure explaining consumption recommendations: http://www.oehha.ca.gov/fish/so_cal/pdf_zip/081013KioskadvySilverwood.pdf. Dock fishing is allowed for $3 for adults, $2 for kids and seniors. Private boats must be inspected for zebra and quagga mussels. Boats with wet lower units will be turned away. Boats inspected and tagged at Diamond Valley and Perris will be allowed at Silverwood. The park is open seven days a week. BIG BEAR LAKE: The trout fishing remains good best along the north shore from Windy Point to Old Gray’s Landing for shore anglers using floating dough baits on 18 to 24-inch leaders. Fish to four pounds have been reported this past week. The trolling action has been good near the solar observatory and along Trout Alley. Slow trolling with one to three colors of lead core dragging Thomas Buoyants and Rapalas has been the ticket. Chris Robinson, Big Bear City, had a limit of trout to 3-9, and smallmouth bass to two pounds. A few bass are starting to show on swim baits at Garstin Island, but this is still tough. No catfish or panfish reports, yet. For updated fishing information: Big Bear Sporting Goods at 909-866-3222 or visit the store’s Facebook page.
GREGORY LAKE: No reports. Trout Derby coming Memorial Day weekend. Lake, derby, and fishing information at 909-338-2233 or on the website at lakegregoryrecreation.com/fish. Fishing updates are posted infrequently on the park’s Facebook page or website.
GREEN VALLEY LAKE: The first trout plant (500 pounds) of the season went two weeks ago, and the bite has remained fair since. The swim beach is tentatively slated to open Memorial Day weekend, depending on weather and water conditions. The website is www.gvlfishing.com and the Facebook page is Green Valley Lake Fishing.
